Starting from Marrakech, this active itinerary blends physical challenge with rich cultural immersion. After a thrilling 3-day Toubkal ascent, continue south through the dramatic Draa Valley to explore the majestic dunes of Chegaga by camel and 4x4.
Day 1:Depart Marrakech and drive to Imlil. Begin the Toubkal approach trek and overnight at the Toubkal Refuge or nearby bivouac (3,200m).(6 hours total / +1,300m elevation gain)
Day 2:Early morning summit of Mount Toubkal (4,167m) with panoramic views of the Atlas and Sahara. Return to refuge for overnight.(5.5 hours / +/-960m)
Day 3:Descend to Imlil and transfer to Ouarzazate via Tizi N'Tichka Pass, with visits to iconic sites like Aït Ben Haddou. Overnight in an ecolodge.(3–4 hours trek + 4 hours drive)
Day 4:Journey through the Draa Valley to Mhamid El Ghizlane, gateway to the Sahara. Overnight in a fixed desert camp with traditional comforts and optional hammam.(4 hours drive)
Day 5:Camel caravan trek to Erg Lbour. After lunch, transfer by 4x4 to the towering dunes of Erg Chegaga. Overnight in nomadic bivouac under the stars.(4 hours walk + 50 km off-road drive)
Day 6:Free day in the desert. Lunch near a sacred oasis or with a nomadic family. Optional hike or camel ride to the highest dune at sunset. Another night under the stars in Chegaga.
Day 7:Morning departure through Iriki Lake and Foum Zguid, visiting Tazenakht and Aït Ben Haddou en route back to Marrakech.(Approx. 8 hours drive)
This 7-day tour includes all private transport, English-speaking guides, mule and camel support, lodging in refuges, lodges, and desert camps, plus meals and bottled water. Vegetarian meals available on request.
Basic mountaineering gear is recommended for the Toubkal ascent: high mountain boots, warm layers, windbreaker, hat, gloves (except in July–August). Trekking level is intermediate to sporty. Luggage is carried by mules in the mountains and camels in the desert.
