Embark on a spectacular 6-day trekking adventure through Morocco’s central High Atlas Mountains. From the fertile Aït Bougmez Valley—known as the “Happy Valley”—to the fragrant Valley of Roses, this off-the-beaten-path hike offers breathtaking landscapes, deep canyons, Berber culture, and unforgettable nights under the stars.
Cross high mountain passes, explore remote Berber villages, and trek through the dramatic gorges of the Mgoun River—all with expert local guides.
This immersive trekking tour takes you from Marrakech to the rural heart of the Atlas. The journey begins in the apple orchards and terraced fields of Aït Bougmez and climbs steadily over the 2,900-meter Aït Imi Pass. From there, you’ll descend through rugged highland scenery, follow ancient nomadic routes, and wade through the majestic Mgoun gorges—some of the most stunning in North Africa.
Day 1: Depart Marrakech and head to the Aït Bougmez Valley (approx. 5-hour drive). Enjoy a short acclimatization hike and soak in the serene views of earthen villages and terraced farmland. Overnight in a local guesthouse in Aït Imi (1,900m).
Day 2–5: Begin the trek from Aït Bougmez across the Aït Imi Pass (2,905m) and descend into the wild landscapes of the Mgoun Massif. Trekking days average 6–6.5 hours, passing through narrow canyons, Berber hamlets, and open high plateaus. Expect river crossings and possible swims in the Mgoun gorge (seasonal). Overnight in nomadic-style wild camps at Talat Righuen, Imi N’yekhte, and Tiranimine. The journey ends in the Valley of Roses, famous for its pink blooms in spring and traditional Kasbahs. Final night in a guesthouse in Boutaghrar.
Day 6: Transfer back to Marrakech via Kelaat Mgouna and Ouarzazate. Visit highlights like Aït Ben Haddou and the Telouet Kasbah along the way (optional stops on request).
This 6-day Atlas trek includes private transport, English-speaking mountain guide, mule support, guesthouse and bivouac accommodations, meals, and bottled water. Vegetarian meals available on request.
The trek covers moderate to challenging terrain and is best suited for fit hikers. The route is available from April to October and can be adapted for small private groups or adventurous couples. Airport pick-up from Marrakech available on request.
