Embark on a 4-day, 3-night journey through the Moroccan desert, including two days of walking across stunning Saharan landscapes. This adventure focuses on the breathtaking dunes of Erg Zahar, offering an unforgettable experience suitable for all fitness levels.
Each day includes 3.5 to 4 hours of walking, perfect for beginners and intermediate trekkers alike. You'll spend one night at a comfortable fixed desert camp and two nights in a nomadic camp—either in a tent or sleeping under the stars.
Along the way, follow the old caravan routes and discover the many faces of the Moroccan desert in just a few days. The trek ends with a 4x4 return from the tracks near Erg Zahar. This excursion is perfect for short holidays and can be booked any time of the year.
We offer group and private departures from Marrakech, Agadir, Ouarzazate, or Mhamid. You can also start in one city and return to another. Group departures are scheduled, while private or semi-private options are available on request from September to May.
Day 1: Morning departure from your selected city to Mhamid, the desert gateway. Enjoy scenic stops on the way. In the evening, settle into our comfortable fixed camp amid the Mhamid el Ghizlane dunes.
Day 2: The trek begins on foot with our team and dromedary caravan. After a morning hike to the palm grove of Mhamid, enjoy lunch under the shade of tamarisk trees. Continue on to the shrine of Sidi Naji, rich in local lore, and camp near the dunes.
Day 3: Journey through small dunes and across a dry lakebed to reach the majestic "singing" dunes of Erg Zahar. Spend the night in the heart of the Sahara under canvas or beneath the open sky.
Day 4: After breakfast, a 4x4 picks you up for a scenic drive back to the fixed camp via the Draa Valley. After lunch, return to your departure city in the evening.
Pick-up from the airport can be arranged on request. Our fixed camp, 10km from Mhamid, features comfort amenities like a traditional hammam (optional, €10). Water is drawn from a nearby well and heated using wood-fired boilers.
The remaining nights are spent in nomadic-style camps between the dunes. Meals are freshly prepared daily: salads for lunch, tagines for dinner, and tea served throughout the day. We provide bottled mineral water, though for longer treks, we recommend bringing a water filter bottle to reduce plastic waste.
The dromedaries carry all camping equipment and personal belongings. This short trek is available from early September through late May. For those wishing to travel without flying, we can guide you on how to reach Mhamid by bus or car plus ferry from France or Spain.
Want to make the most of your time in Morocco? Stay an extra night at the fixed camp to explore Mhamid’s kasbahs and southern villages. You can also extend your return over 1–3 days to enjoy the full beauty of the Draa Valley.
